Los Angeles Asian Pacific American Heritage Month 2016

LAAPAHM2016

Today marks the start of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM), a celebration of Asian Pacific Americans(APAs) in the United States! TRAKTIVIST is very proud to be a Community Partner for the City of Los Angeles! For the last three decades, the City of Los Angeles has held a series of events throughout the month to highlight the significant contributions that APAs have made to the city's past, present and future.

This year is extra special as we have much to celebrate. Councilmember David Ryu is the first Korean American and only APA on the Los Angeles City Council in over 20 years. Commissioner Joel Jacinto is the first Filipino American Commissioner of the L.A. Department of Public Works.

The theme of LA APAHM 2016 is “We are LA.” From creating small businesses and tech companies to playing major roles in entertainment, restaurants, music, culture, community service, and government, our stories have long been a part of LA’s history and we will continue to be a big part of LA’s future. This theme clearly encapsulates the fact that APAs are an important and integral part of the story of Los Angeles. We have shaped L.A. and are embedded in the social, cultural and economic life of the city.
